There are some formulas to learn for scales and maps here are those:

for distance: ACTUAL DISTANCE/ MAP DISTANCE = (MAP SCALE)

for area: ACTUAL AREA / MAP AREA= (MAP SCALE) ^2

for volume: ACTUAL VOLUME/ MODEL VOLUME= (SCALE)^3
