What Taha said, you have to write briefly under different headings of memorization, writing and practice.

Memorization:
The Arabs had retentive and sharp memory so they easily learned countless of traditions directly from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and they followed the Sunnah in their everyday lives. The Prophet used to listen to what the companions heard and understood to make sure that they fully understand and to spread the message to others. The Holy Prophet (s) was an excellent teacher and used to repeat important traditions more than once and most importantly the prominent companions remained in the service of him and learnt great deal of Islamic teachings. In this way the Hadith were spread widely. Abu Huraira and Hazrat Aisha are amongst the best memorizers.

Writing:
When Holy Prophet(s) became confident of his own verbal sayings and actions and he was convinced that Muslims would be able to distinguish between Quran and Hadith thereafter he instructed his companions to write the traditions like Abdullah bin Umar who used to write the tradition. Moreover, the hadith was preserved in letters of Holy Prophet that he sent to different rulers and as well as treaties.

Practice:
The Muslims started to put the hadith into practice. If any sort of difficulties arose they used to resort to Hadith. You can quote some traditions here regarding how to conduct business etc.
