the lines x+y=2 and x-3y=6 are shown on the diagram.
a). find the gradient of the line x-3y=6

The answer says : 1/3
I don't get how it is solved like I do get that you have to re-arrange it to the formula: y=mx+c
I don't know what to do after, please someone explain me in a easy way. thanks will appreciate

a)express it in the form of y=mx+c so therefore :-
x-6=3y

x-6/3=y now the gradient(m) is always the x part so thefore 1/3 is the coeeficient of x part and the gradient also.......
hope u understoodd:)

sorry I didn't get it still. I would like it we arrange the equation to y=mx+c format because that helps me understand better

Not Sure If This Is Correct! But Here I Go! :)

First solve the Simultaneous equation! And you get :
x=3 and y=-1

So now we have some values to find gradient [m] we need to get the equation
in the form y=mx+c

x-3y=6 = 3y=x-6

y=x-2

so y=mx-2

Substitute the values we got from the simultaneous equation :-
i.e. x=3 and y=-1

-1 = m * 3 - 2
-1 + 2 = m * 3
1 = m * 3

hence m = 1/3

Hope it helped ^_^

x - 3y = 6
x = 6 + 3y
3y = x - 6
y = x/3 - 2

x/3 is the same as multiplying x by 1/3, so the gradient is 1/3. It can also be written as 1/3 x.
