is d/dx the same thing as dy/dx

i am confused.cn any1 clarify this point that d/dx is same as dy/dx or not

Differentiating y with respect to x is shown by:
.d.
dx

which is equal to dy/dx.

I explained it in detail because dy/dx is equal to d/dx only when equations subject is y!
