matn is the real text which rasulullah spoke. it was used by muhadithin to check if a hadith is authentic by seeing that it does not contradict quran, sahih hadith and it is not against common sense, does not tell good reward for minor deeds and big sin for smaller sins.
it's nicely explaned in farkhanda noor's book.
