Assalamualaikum.
Yeah, thing is, references, you should not know all of them given in the chapters. Memorize the basic ones, or the ones which you feel are easy for you.
Technique, just write them down, ALONG WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE CHAPTERS, on a separate booklet or w/e. Read that like once every few days, its not that difficult. Everyone has different abilities of memorizing, but rote learning should work for just about anyone.

Alchemist4lyf is right you should compile them topic wise and stick into a place where you spend most of your time in this way you will remember them!
