In summer land heats up faster than the water in the oceans because water has a high specific heat capacity. Air over land get sheated up, becomes less dense and rises. Cold, moist air from the oceans blows over the land. When this air is uplifted by mountain edges and due to convection, it cools adiabatically. When the dew point is reached clouds are formed and rainfall occurs. Usually as thunderstorms.

Convection is related to uplift of air due to heating hence creating a pressure difference for winds to flow. Thunderstorm is the nature of the resulting rainfall.
