Just completed my A level in Business Studies, Economics, and English Language. Might be of some help.
I, too, did O level in sciences (did take accounting and business as well, but privately without much effort), and even took Phy Chem Maths in AS but as I had no interest in those subjects I didn't study at all and.... ******.
Then I changed my subjects in A2, took business eco english. Found these subjects pretty interesting, though I didn't study for the 3 composite exams (AS+A2) till the last 15 days, still managed decent grades... satisfied with it.

Answers to your questions...
1. Most probably, YES. Just make sure you go thru the course routinely and revise well for the exams.
2) I got an A in O level Maths too.. in A level.. don't ask. Dropped it. But its due to my lack of effort.
No technical maths in these subjects..
3) You should ideally take 4 subjects. 4th one just in case. If you're confident you'll do well in 3, no harm in that too.
I have heard Business Studies and Economics are pretty similar and so you get half the credits or something. But this isn't the case most of the time.
You can take Business Studies, Economics, English Lit/Lang, Accounting (its comparatively harder than business though), Sociology, Maths (hard!)... would be others too.
4) I took English Language A level.. it was previously just an AS level subject, so we had the first session of A level Eng Lang.. most people including me got LOW grades, even though I was expecting an A or B. Might be due to the lack of course material available to us.
5) No thumb rule. That's a pretty subjective statement. Though the people are true to some extent, there are 2 sides to it.
Since a decade or so, MBAs are like pretty common due to cheap unaccredited good for nothing universities popping up everywhere. All offer MBA degrees they just want money, students don't have any idea of management. Those MBAs are good for nothing.
BUT,
An MBA from a top/well reputed business school is about as good as it gets. MBAs are among the top payed employees, they get leadership positions, many a people with Bachelors in engineering/computer science etc also opt for MBA at masters level as it opens up opportunities for leadership positions, better pay and fringe benefits.
SO, an MBA from a university of good repute is a fruitful degree to pursue.
Im starting BBA this fall and hope to do an MBA later on.

Hope this helped.

wen u decide plz tell...btw wat subs r u thinking of?
I wanted to take 6 subs. I was confident about them, until in my interview, the principal advised me to focus on my core subjects, that is 4 only. I am baffled myself. I want to take English Language, but looking at the sight of so many people here, they have befallen as victims of unexpected grades. I wanted to take Psychology, but after talking about it with someone, he told me to take AS which my school doesn't offer. So I too am confused

Yeah I've heard that too but that MAY BE for the top international universities.
That's why you should choose 4 subjects, or if you are in doubt keep 3 with either business or eco.
My friend who had Business Eco and Law got conditional offers for LLB from some UK universities like Cardiff, SOAS, etc.
I got into NUST Business School with Business Eco English.
Generally if you do well in Business and Eco they are counted as separate, and you can get HEC equivalence with these 2 and 1 more.

I'd advise you opt for Business, Economics, Accounting/English, Maths as Maths is needed for LUMS (and maybe even IBA)... minimum BBC so you can afford a C in maths.

Yes LUMS is best for business education, followed by IBA (Karachi) and NBS.
All 3 are good.
Others...... hmm...... maybe FAST school of Management. I don't think Lahore School of Economics is that good.
