A crystalline solid has its molecules (or atoms) arranged in a lattice. ionic compounds are usually crystalline, but not all crystalline compounds are ionic.when you break them, the nature of the break indicates the crystal structure. Thus, grinding a crystal of NaCl (which is cubic) inevitably produces small cubes of NaCl.
Non-crystalline solids such as glass break into randomly-shaped pieces.Non-crystalline solids such as glass soften as the temperature increases and have no sharply defined melting point.

crystalline = orderly arrangement
non-crystalline = not orderly

JazakAllah...Can ialso have some notes for structures of solids,liquids and gases..i dont understand what the syllabus requires exactly:
(b) relate the difference in the structures and densities of solids, liquids and gases to simple ideas of the spacing, ordering and motion of molecules
e) distinguish between the structure of crystalline and non-crystalline solids with particular reference to metals, polymers and amorphous materials
