U were required to use m as the first part of q indicated this, as concerned for mass , i used kg just to be precise and get the working with SI units

If it says the unit in the question, then you have to use that unit, otherwise it doesn't matter.

It's easier to use grams though, since the weight is in grams, so I don't see why you would use anything else.
