Tension in cord due to 2.0 kg ... 2x 9.8 = 19.6 N
resultant force = 19.6 - 6 = 13.6 N

Now using common sense, since both 8 kg and 2 kg masses will accelerate... so ...

a = F/m = 13.6 / (8+2) = 1.4 m/s^2
