both X & Y would decrease because vital capacity is the maximum air inhaled and exhaled during one breath ... and during moderate exercise the maximum volume of air taken into the lungs is less than when at strenuous exercise...

Or you could think it this way that during deep breathing maximum volume of air is taken in but when breathing becomes slow eg during "MODERATE" breathing, vital capacity or the depth of breathing decreases...
