what is the difference between lag phase and log phase ,how can we identify them on the graph??

The lag phase is the first phase in the sigmoid curve where a population experiences slow growth rate and is still adapting to the environment then comes the log phase also called exponential phase where the growth becomes rapid due to less or no limiting factors and a relatively low density
You can distinguish them by looking at the difference in the steepness of the curve
at the lag phase it is less steep than log phase.

yes thanks but actually how do we judge the steepness to find out exactly where the log phase starts?as in the lag phase the steepness keepc increasing !

there is a point (very clear ) between the lag and the log so u can distinguish between the as the adapting phase comes first

by a point do u mean there will be a dot b/w the two phases??i dont think so they will mark it when they are asking u to label the phases!

of course not !!!! but it will be very clear that the steepness will increase as they will be well adapted to the environment and are increasing in population so it will much more steep ........ :idea:
