tips on perfecting maths gcse paper 1

Hey guys can some please give me tips on how i should perfect my techniques on maths paper 1, and if someone can tell me how much is it worth in total out of the 2 papers, since it has 20 questions? the 2011 igcse maths exam paper 1 was out of 55 marks , is it the same for gcse? and how much in percentage does that make in total. Will appreciate all the ideas and tips and information. I am studying through past papers and trying to remember all the key words and techniques that the solution sheet shows.
