the colour of transitional metal compounds is the colour of wavelength that is not absorbed by the compound.
now ..if Blue is absorbed then Red is visible ..similarly can any one tell me such few combinations ( if this colur is absorbed then this colour is seen)

Yep, complementary color it is. We learned all about it in art class, so there's an easier way of remembering it. You know the three primary colours right? Well, the complementary to red is the mixture of the other two primaries (blue and yellow) which would be green. Likewise, the complement of yellow will be the mixture of red and blue, which is purple. Similarly, the complement of blue would be the mixture of red and yellow, which is orange. The complements of the secondary colours (i.e. Orange, Purple and Green) are the aforementioned respective colours. :D
