delaying one or two years is not a problem as long as you do something useful meanwhile... an internship, or a job for a pharmaceutical business (btw pharmaceuticals are and have been in a big price fixing problem enforced on them by the government since 2001/2 and 5 Multinational Firms have left Pakistan, the latest being Johnson & Johnson shutting down its operations, resulting in Abbott buying their plants .. additionally local manufacturers are also creeping in... so jobs might be sort of a revolving door right now).... or do some student project type thing it is good for science students

also give the SAT 2 for chem, bio, phys...will add some weight to your application ... also check the full-bright scholarship program... there are more full bright scholarships for students towards engineering particularly those focusing on energy... and one more thing contrary to what you might think if you do that is, chemical engineering involves a lot of physics and math instead of chem check the MIT and Indian Institutes courses to understand this point further... so if your math is weak improve it via khan academy, schaums outlines, TTC lectures on piratebay, MathTutor on piratebay, etc
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com...-how-much-math-physics-really-used-cheme.html

the above below is for MITs open course ware with this you can see the lectures, in some cases video lectures and books, notes, assignments etc.. give you a great look into what it is like studying at MIT in terms of curriculum

good video lectures here as well:-

also try Schaums' outlines on piratebay.com and 4shared.com .. schaums' outline includes solved problems and light notes... also

also check QS rankings, ARWU rankings
