Hey there,
I am gunna be appearing in this May/June session 2013. I kinda find Urdu translation hard. Can anybody suggest a particular method that can be opted to do well in translation. There aren't any particular words, that they want us to remember? It can be just anything? right? So how on earth can we expect to know most of the words? 0_o

and they say that our expected grades are going to be the final grades this time, because the elections in pakistan clash with the CIE's. therefore our expected grades are to be the finals. Is this a mere rumor or a possibility?

Reply soon.

for translation, u need to understand the passage in english and the main aim is to properly convey the meaning. It is no hard n fast rule that u need exact translation of all words or do it in the same way as in mark scheme. For example u r asked for the word fisherman. Its actual urdu translation is 'macheray' but u can write it as 'machli pakarne wala' That is what i have learned from my teacher and got an A in urdu just cuz of paper 1. U need to do alot of practice to master this work and get it checked by ur teacher or someone familiar with the mark method. Also spelling mistakes are not penalised if they do not interfere with meaning. Same goes for the grammatical mistakes. Ur translation in urdu should be in proper sentence structure.
For expected grades, whereas know thats just a rumor. If it was like this, why are we paying all that fees and sitting in the exams. What i think is expected grades are just a joke which have no afect on ur final cie grade.

So, you mean we need to convey the meaning of the passage rightly. Doesn't matter if we skip few words without omitting any info from the passage? if not grammar, or even spellings, is handwriting considered in CIE. They say, it does matter in Urdu particularly?

And oh, thankyou :) I was pretty confused about this. But what if situations deteriorate? CIEs cannot be delayed in any way.

Thankyou for the help though.

no, u can't skip any words. u have to translate every word. Or u may write meanings of some words instead of translations as i gave u the example of fisherman above. Ur handwriting should be legible otherwise examiner may misunderstood something n u may not be awarded marks despite being correct.
If the situation deteriorated during cie exams...... contact ur school and hope for the best ;)

Hey, you don't have to write the exact words in Urdu nor do you need to follow the same pattern of sentence transformation. When the examiner reads your translation, they should understand it's meaning clearly. You can add words that fit in perfectly, without changing the meaning of the sentence. Sometimes the English word doesn't make sense when translated into Urdu, so you're free to use a synonym in that case. Try to avoid grammatical errors. And do lots of past papers! Good luck :D
