Hey!

I want to know some info about Urdu as second language.. Ima give my exam in oct/nov session this year...

First, you know the summary (khulasa) of Paper 2... do we just focus on using the given words? or do we still write it as whole explanation but by summarizing it.

Secondly, is there a special format for writing an article in paper 1?

Third, the Translation in paper 1, is it suppose to be word by word translation as it is in Urdu (if we do that, the paragraph actually doesn't make that much of a sense) or isit suppose to be in a way in which it'll make sense.
cuz the marking scheme does it sentence by sentence and doesn't bother about the "making sense" part.

For now these 3 queries, will annoy u all again soon :)

And yeah! Can the students who have already given Urdu as second lang answer this? As it'll be much clearer to me and other current students if u guys share ur experience.

LASTLY, thanks a lot for reading my speech and answering it in advance!
:)

Don't mean to boast but I just got an A* in Urdu in the May/June session, and I have to say Urdu B is one of the easiest subjects offered by Cambridge.
1. The summary requires that you select relevant information from the passage (according to the points), omit any unnecessary details, summarize it into a simple sentence and most importantly USE YOUR OWN WORDS.
2. I don't get your question. Do you mean P1 Q1 or Q2. (Please clarify)
3. The translation has to be in a sensible manner (bit of common sense :p), I would say you should solve a lot of practice passages and Past Papers if you are weak in this part of the paper. Read the sentence in English and then in your mind think about the best possible way it could be translated into Urdu.

Hope I helped. So which book are you preparing from?

In Paper 1, Q1 you are give three points (Directed Writing) according to which you have to write an ESSAY of no more than 150 words (you can exceed by 50 words maximum).
  • Don't start writing right off the bat, take some time and prepare a plan of what you would write and how would you organize your essay (take 5-7 minutes).
  • Divide the three points into three separate paragraphs and don't waste words on a lengthy introduction.
  • Write simple sentences as there is a chances of mistakes in complex ones.
Note: Most of the time the three points are like this,
1.Advantages
2.Disadvantages
3.How we can improve....
So we can say this part is halwa

In Q2 you have the 2 options (which can be either a Report, Letter, Dialogue or a Speech) which should be about 200 words.
  • In a Report you can start just like an essay with paragraphing but at the end write Reporter : Name and the date on the left hand side.
  • The format of a letter will be decided by whether is a formal or informal one (it is the same as in English). I assume you know that :p
  • Similarly dialogue is written in the same way as in English, i.e. Person 1: Dialogue, Person 2: Dialogue....
  • Speech (in my opinion) is the easiest of the four. You have to start it like: Meray Azeez sathion!, Meray doston!, etc. and write them before starting a new paragraph. e.g. Moujoda Hazireen!
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Janab Hazraat!
................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

And also try not to make too many spelling mistakes in the same question.
