there are 3 types of bacterias:-
1) nitrogen-fixing bacteria which are found in root nodules of leguminous plants and are used to convert nitrogen gas into compounds of ammonia
2) nitrifying bacteria are used to convert compound of ammonia into nitrates/nitrites which are used by the plants for protein synthesis. these enzymes are found in the soil
3) denitrifying bacteria are used to convert nitrates/ nitrites (from the soil) into nitrogen gas..

the nitrogen/ ammonium compounds are also found in the soil by
1) dead plants/ animals that are decomposed by decomposers
2) urine and faeces
3) fertilizers containing nitrogen
