Hi there!

First of all,my advice to you would be that read the CIE Business Studies book regularly, i mean like go through the pages you are going to study in class before hand.
this seriously does help you, it just prepares your mind to be be ready for understanding the concepts in class. Thus there is no need to take extra classes as being attentive in regular classes is good enough.
As for your question, paternalism is not part of CIE syllabus, it is just mentioned as an alternative to the other management styles. this makes our understating of the other styles more clearer. and also helps in developing answers.

Paternalism simply means acting as a Fatherly figure or parenting authority over a child. the notion is that the senior manager know best, but because it is more a more democratic style compared to the Autocratic style, feedback and involvement from the subordinates' side is valued. but the final decision is taken on the sole discretion of the manager.

if you have any other queries, please let me know, i will try my best to prove myself as an helpful aid.

I wish you the best of luck, and may God help you throughout your studies.

a democratic style is productive only when the subordinates are well trained and highly motivated. otherwise, delegating tasks would be of no help to the manager, as the subordinates may be incapable of completing the tasks effectively.

neither will it lead to the higher level needs of motivation, as identified by Maslow, such as self acclimatisation being satisfied for the employees.

similarly, a good 2 way communication should be established between the employees and manager for delegation to be useful
