AoA! :)
Choose Second Language Urdu (Urdu B), which is considerably easier than First Language. The only way to improve a language is reading and then practising. You can use Shazia Islam's Urdu book for preparation.
Islamiat is quite a thorough subject. First, download the syllabus and study those topics (you may use Farkhanda Noor Muhammad's book or the one by David Thomas). You would need to learn various important events, ahadis and ayat so revision is vital. After you're done with the syllabus, do check out the past papers here. Reading examiner reports is would be quite helpful, too.

Just have a look at some Second Language Urdu past papers. You'd get a fair idea about the paper structure. There's nothing that you have to memorise or learn except the 'Muhawaraat'/Idioms given at the back of Shazia Islam's book. :)

Yeah and consider the muhawaraat that begin wid common alphabets like Alif, alif-madda, jeem etc. Usually they give extremely simple muhawaraat that we normally use but never consider as a Muhawara!!

Karachi university ?? Well may I ask u that why are u going into the university which has a total unstable condition and is full of politics ??
Anyways u just have to concentrate for isl, Urdu B (as abcde suggested) and Pak-studies.
For Urdu I must say that I was a student who even did not know how to write a full comprehension till 9th grade but Allahamdullaiah got an A. so i would suggest that give 2 hours to urdu daily and in these hours write Mazmoon, Letter, Report and speech. also practice translations and summaries, rest is just common sense !! :)
For Isl make questions out of syllabus and for pak-studies (history) do all the past papers, for geo u have to grasp the concept because rarely any question from past paper is repeated !!

Second Language Urdu Paper Pattern:
Paper 1
Task 1: Essay question. 15 marks. You are given a topic and the points on which to elaborate on. The word limit is 150 (if I remember correctly!).
Task 2: Two options are given and the candidate must choose one. The tasks could be (formal or informal) letter/khat, dialogue/mukalma, report, speech/takreer. 20 marks. You must follow the proper format for each task.
Task 3: Translation paragraph (English-to-Urdu). 20 marks. Considered the most challenging part of the paper. Practise lots of these beforehand! :)

Paper 2
Part 1 is vocabulary. You are normally asked two questions in which a total of 5 muhawaraat/idioms are given. You have to use them in sentences and this carries 5 marks. Like I said, you have to go through the Muhawaraat list at the back of Shazia Islam's book for this.
The third question is 'Sentence Transformation', which also carries 5 marks. You may have to change sentences from past to present tense etc.
The next question is a 'Cloze passage'. Again, 5 marks. You just fill in the missing words from a list given below the passage.
The summary question is of 10 marks.
Two Comprehension passages are given, each of 15 marks. You have to solve them both.
