what is the solution?

Hi, I got a question which about the proportion, if 12=3 x^2, what should the x be?

12 = 3 x^2
12/3 = x^2
4 = x^2
sqr.root of 4 = x
2 = x
therefore x = 2

The answer is not +2 or -2???

yeah whenever u do a square root in algebra the answer is +- so yeah x=2 or x=-2, sorry forgot that for a moment
