I am half way done with my software engineering so whatever i am gonna tell u its purely based on my experience. SE or CS is pretty good and growing field, u have so many job opportunities once u complete ur degree. BUT ITS A VERY VERY DEMANDING FIELD.
CS and SE are pretty much the same thing. a software engineer design's the architect for the software and its building (coding) is done by a CS degree holder. I guess it doesn't matter anyway in Pakistan.
and one more thing, no one see's from where u obtained ur degree or cgpa, U HAVE TO BE GOOD IN PROGRAMMING. ever heard of UMT? I guess NO. well i am studying here and one student (frm UMT) with a cgpa of 2.3 got into NETSOL with a salary of 4 lac/ months(he was like super good in programming and he is a final year student). See, Its all about programming skills. u can get a degree from a very posh university, but if u are weak with ur coding/programming skills and concepts, trust me, no one would be willing u.
one thing that u need to see while opting for university is the quality of teaching faculty there. LUMS, FAST, NUST are good but are hard to get in. (got into all three but didnt go due to some reasons)
Well i got into UMT and i am very much satisfied!
Hope that i somehow helped u with ur confusion.
Best of Luck! :)

Tayyba, I have heard from people that CS/SE is on the verge of saturation - too many people are going into it and jobs are lessening. Any truth in that?

there are too many people going in this field, but trust me, u can be an instant stand out among the crowd if ur codding skills and concepts are excellent. i have seen final year students who dont even know fundamentals of programming ( taught in 1st semester)
while recruiting, ur test and interview question is all based on or skills and concepts . ( and many handful people fail that )
And i dont believe that, i have read many surveys and articles online regarding the best emerging jobs of the world and the where the unemployment rate is lowest. SE/ CS is on no.2/ no. 3

So, are the grades the only MAIN criteria for admissions or if you actually learned coding and have made websites (hopefully an app/software too :3 )it's better? Coz I am not too optimistic on my O Level grades (mostly it's the subjects like Urdu, Bio which I never excel at). Both for local and foreign (If you know about both).

O'level grades do matter when it comes to gaining admission in well reputed universities, but if they arent way too bad you can work hard on ur entry test and get in. even with low grades u can admission somewhere but it wouldnt be well reputed university.
i did learn coding and am learning more languages. the real work starts after two years of ur university! i am looking forward to that, till now only worked on small projects.
overall i think SE/CS is a very good field 'if' u are smart enough. only this smartness will separate u from the crowd of other CS/SE degree holders/
