Hi! I'm appearing for World History (2158) this year, for the examination session being held in May/June 2014. My only concern regarding this subject is its exam format, in order to attempt the questions.
Could someone please guide me towards this; as I am unsure of HOW TO answer the 14 mark narrative and 6 mark analytical based questions.
I need immediate help!

For narrative:
  • Before beginning, write down the timeline of events[not included in the answer]
  • Start with a summary paragraph[3 lines maximum].
  • Then divide your work in paragraphs depending on the question e.g
  • 1. Policies of Roosevelt during the great depression[at least 3-4 paragraphs with separate headings like Banking,Military,Legislations passed]
  • Write a brief concluding paragraph[do not be hasty with this one as it concludes your answer]
For analysis:
  • This question is a "Why?" question.
  • If you do not have the required facts for the question then you are screwed e.g
  • 1) Why did Lyndon Johnson step down after his first term?
  • At least make 3-4 statements and then analyse then with facts and opinions: like for the above question the statement I give is:
  • "Due to the vietnam war" - though this statement is vague but with supporting material you can make it a full fledge paragraph.
  • This part can have your opinion.[but you also need supporting material for it]
  • Attempt more analytic questions as narrative are much easier.

Thank you so much! I didn't know I'd find such great help this early. However, my only concern left now is whether it is important to give headings for the events, in the 14 mark narrative questions? Also, to what extent should I explain a single point - as in how long should I make it?

Take a look at the marking schemes or examiner reports. It is stated that you need to give headings[carries 2 marks maximum].
The length of one single point usually depends on the question e.g
Q. Causes of the second world war.
-For this usually 3-4 points can be found mainly. So give each point half a page to the max.
- Remember to do indent paragraphing if you try to do without headings.
-The rest depends on how much you know.
