can u explain this question... June 2005 paper 2 question 5a)
compasses are always confusing me. why is compass C pointing to the right? are we supposed to consider the poles of the solenoid or the magnets inside?? o_O

magnets inside. compasses direction moves from North to South.

ohh.... so first we'll determine the poles of the solenoid then the magnet and then we'll direct the compasses according to the magnetic poles?? o_O uffff....!!!

Ummm, in the formula of heat capacity and latent heat of fusion, is mass to be taken in kg?
And how does the size of the bore affect the thermometer's sensitivity?

yup its in kg.
wider bore means more sensitive
longer thermometer means less sensitive (but more range) [worst topic of O levels Physics] :/

HEY. Does anyone have notes on Nuclear physics?

wider bore means more sensitive
longer thermometer means less sensitive (but more range) [worst topic of O levels Physics] :/

are you sure wider bore means more sensitive ? doesn't it reduce the sensitivity because the expansion will be less visible ?

ohh. sorry about that!! :/ i 'm reaaly sorry every1! thinner bore means more sensitivity bcuz sensitivity is inversely proportional to bore size. thanks for correcting me here :)

first, using the right hand grip rule determine the north pole and then mark poles on both the magnets.
the magnetic feild i.e the compass arrows will move from North to South.
hope you get the point.

Well does anyone know the proper difference between potential difference and E.M.F .

From what i know emf the energy required to move a charge around the circuit , or any two points . while potential difference , is the difference in potential or energy between two points .

The easiest way to differentiate is, that Potential difference is the force needed to move a bunch of charges while EMF is the force to move a single charge.

I know the definition is childish but works well!

uuuuhhhmm.... your defenation of potential difference doesn't make sense.and i think its wrong ....... :O
