"we've been fed... since FOREVER" <--- see that's actual problem! U have been fed stuff n u have accepted it as it is... Ever tried looking up??
See there are two opinions of scholars on the birth of Holy Prophet (SAWS) n the more correct one is that he was born on the 9th Rabi ul Awwal!

^ indeed it is , cuz hmesha se islamiat teachers have said 12th 12th 12th -. - tbh i heard this different dates thin today for the first time ever.

Further more, we shouldn't be concerned with dates much as they don't play a very significant role... Can we claim that we love prophet more than Sahaba did?? Of course not!they never celebrated the b'day of the prophet so y should we?? We can't introduce anything new in the religion, as it a bidah!!

The source you got is not reliable. Plus we have not been fed anything. It was one the miraculous things that he was born and died on the12th. You need to get your sources straight before spreading anything else.

@inno acha so ur Islamiyat teacher is the standard of authenticity? :P
Look up in authentic books such as Ar Raheeq ul Makhtoom!
U r missing the actual point here, we are not concerned with dates, be it 9th or 12th, we can't introduce anything new in our Deen it was completed back at the of prophet(SAWS)!!

Okay... I got the hang of it! As long as we do it on random days, it's all fine!! :D
But u said that the Sahabas never did.... They always dicussed about Prophet S.A.W.W. when the met up!! Isn't it kinda same??
N.M

:)

Yes Sahabas never gathered together to do the kind of milads we have...! They never sat together n said c'mon let's celebrate the b'day of RASOOLALLAH (SAWS)...
They were not like us passing empty slogans of being Aashik e Rasool!! They actually proved it by their action!!
It's true that they used to sit together n discuss abt RasoolAllah n his sayings in the halaqas...
These are two diff things u see...
