I suppose it would increase it. That's what I wrote.

    Chemistry 21

There's the confusion. Even though, 2 secondary alcohols DO form (in the intermediate), the bond between the two carbons which bear the alcohol functional groups breaks. This makes them primary alcohols which are then oxidized to aldehydes and further heating oxidizes the aldehydes to...

http://wwwchem.uwimona.edu.jm/lab_manuals/c10expt12.html Yes, chemistry can be a troll sometimes. Now you know why we worry about stuff that gets you '2-3' marks. ;)

A level Biology: Post your doubts here!

This part from the syllabus: I can't think of too many differences. :S Does anyone have a list?

^That's what I got too. How'd you guys tackle the question which asked us to prove the presence of 2 OH groups? A lot of the kids I know found the molecular formula. :S What I did was found the moles of X by mass/Mr of X (both of which were given) and then found the ratio of it with the...

Bingo! :D Increasing the temperature decreased the yield and the catalyst had no effect. What did you get your percentage purity as?

The ring structure opens up, actually (doesn't look like it in your structure though; sorry if that's what you meant). It'd be simply HO₂C(CH₂)₄CO₂H

    statistics: any guesses??

I'm expecting permutations will be pretty hard this time. The permutations questions have been pretty easy for the several sessions.

I don't know... I mean looking at the question after that I changed my answer to H2SO4. SO3 does not have environmental consequences on its own without first turning into H2SO4. Donno, I could be wrong.

What would be formed from SO2 in the atmosphere? I wrote H2SO4. :/

Am I the only one who found that question easy? Everyone at my center was whining about that question too. :S Oh well. I'm expecting the GT to be VERY high - 52 at least.

90.8 if you've rounded your previous answer (which they expect you to do...). :)

    Chem P2: How was it?

I did variant 1 and it was okay. :)

    Chemistry: Post your doubts here!

Someone in the thread that got closed said that Chlorides do not undergo disproportionation in water and that only happens with NaOH. The former is true, but the latter is not. Chlorides undergo hydrolysis in water. Chlorine (not chloride), on the other hand undergoes disproportionation in hot...

3 marks? LOL Organic chemistry is 40% of the paper at least. ;)

    AS Chemistry P2 Prep.

Dude that's a question about inorganic chemistry. Why would you heat inorganic substances under reflux? I'm 100% sure you SHOULD write heat under reflux when there's a college/school laboratory mentioned. Most schools (not talking about Pakistan here :P ) with a chemistry lab have this...

    AS Chemistry P2 Prep.

You know... it'd be easier to list reactions that don't require heat under reflux. :P There are several you missed (elimination, hydrolysis of esters, hydrolysis of sodium alkanoates, oxidation of aldehydes to acids, nucleophilic substitution when preparing HCl/HBr in situ) BTW, what is the...

Good luck everyone!! I'm out. :D I'm doing 31 tomorrow so PM me later tomorrow whoever wants to discuss the paper. :p
