    Well as far as I know of the only solution, using dsinθ=nλ, as d and λ are constants, we equate n/sinθ. So 3/sin45 = x/sin90, hence x=4.24.. ~ 4. anybody got a more simpler working?? Please answer. :)

    Ans is D. Cl mostly has an oxidation state of -1, like oxygen has -2, because they are highly electronegative atoms as the series goes F O N Cl Br... In this case both O and Cl 'pull' electrons away from Cr so they both have negative oxidation numbers.

    @Octahedral Dude, it seems you're really into Nov 2010's paper, and I did that too today :D. It's D because as far as I think only in 1 will there be Sn1 reaction as that compound is a tertiary alkyl halide.

    It's damn easy Octahedral, I did this just this afternoon. Calculate the moles of reactant and the product formed.     I know the answer is D, but is it a hard-and-fast rule that ONLY tertiary alkyl halides undergo Sn1? It's written on WIkipedia that normally secondary and tertiary undergo.. Can anyone explain this..?

    CIE papers, where are they checked??

    Yup, all the rest of the papers at Cambridge, but papers like Pak Studies or Urdu here or like Hindi or Tamil, Telagu etc in India. Obviously why would they be sent there..?

    fooled the invigilator

    I have FX-570 ES and an FX-570 MS (w/o calculus). Last year in my P1 exam I took both of them and wrote MS on the question paper! :D And the paper went like a rocket too!
