    Additional Math

    Oct/Nov 2005 Paper 01 Question 8: y = (x+2) √(x-1) u = (x+2) u' = 1 v = √(x-1) v' = 1 / (2√(x-1)) dy/dx = uv' + vu' dy/dx = [(x+2) / 2√(x-1)] + [√(x-1)] dy/dx = [x+2+2(x-1)] / 2√(x-1) dy/dx = 3x / 2√(x-1) Therefore k=3/2 For rest parts why don't you look up in marking scheme for the solution...

    help please!

Go to www.xtremepapers.net. Go to CIE, your level and then your required subject. You'll get a long list of resources for that subject. If you are unfamiliar with those file codes, please see http://www.xtremepapers.net/guide.html

    What are Grade Thresholds?

CIE always sets grade thresholds after exams. Grade thresholds depends upon the difficulty of the paper and how students perform in it. If the minimum mark for A* is 65, you'll get an A for scoring 65 or above. :)

    Have you applied in NUST?

15000 was few years back so 30000 might be true! If you find A Level Maths easy, its not gonna be problem since its in majority. The good thing about NUST's test is that it tests your skills, your knowledge and your reaction to the trap they've set in those MCQ's. Thats why its pretty usual that...

    aDdditional MaThs

    Derivation Challenge: Since Sin(A+B) = Sin(A)Cos(B) + Cos(A)Sin(B), Sin(2x) = Sin(x+x) = Sin(x)Cos(x) + Cos(x)Sin(x) = 2Sin(x)Cos(x) Differentiation question: Suppose that y = x^g(x) and you want to differentiate y with respect to x. First take the natural log of both sides and use the...

    aDdditional MaThs

    Piece of cake  Substitute Sin(2x) = 2Sin(x)Cos(x) therefore 2Sin(x)Cos(x) = Cos(x) and 2Sin(x)Cos(x) - Cos(x) = 0 Taking Cos(x) common: Cos(x)[2Sin(x) - 1] = 0 Cos(x) = 0 so x = π/2 or x = 3π/2 [2Sin(x) - 1] = 0 2Sin(x) = 1 Sin(x) = 1/2 so x = π/6 or x = 5π/6
