    all oxides in period 3 are soluble in WATER except aluminium and silicon. sodium and magnesium oxide are basic and dissolves in acid. aluminium oxide is amphoteric and dissolves in both acid and alkali. silicon, phosphorus and sulphur are acid and dissolves in alkali.
