I don't remember the exact reference for this saying but there's a similar Ahmad's Hadith where Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s) narrated to Hazrat abu zarr ghaffari "...and follow up a bad deed with a good one and it will wipe it out..." And as for the quran there is an ayah "...Innal hasanaati...
