Isn't distinction from others the only reason for these exams? Trust me, exams are in no way a judge of one's capabilities. As far as personal satisfaction is concerned, you can even get that without appearing for a single exam.

You've talked about jobs and let me ask you something. Just imagine there was no curve. And you apply for a job with a B grade given that the highest grade given out because the high difficulty of the paper was a B in your session. But then another applicant comes up with an A* but he achieved that in a different session when the exam was easy. Now obviously for the employer the A* guy stands above the B grade guy. Eventhough, both achieved the highest grade that was given out in their respective sessions. This is where the so called CURVE comes in. It maintains the standard of the exams. It doesn't effect the grading system in case of hard and certain easy papers.

If you are so concerned about being the best, then there is an achievement beyond the A*. This is referred to as the Cambridge Outstanding Learners Award or the "Distinction" per say. Get that if you can.
You Sir are my HERO..!! :D :);)

hats off to you.!!

Brotherhood? I play the multiplayer yes. Revelations? Most broken game. Ever. You know why playing ACR MP isn´t good for you? Because of the constant BS that is ever present...

Since your reply was at least civil...

That´s basically what I said, did I not? If getting the A* becomes too easy, you won´t be able to judge whether or not a person is qualified. Therefore since it´s too easy, there will be a bunch of under-qualified in companies. Let´s say you get A* in Science with 80% and due to this A* you get a good job. But 80% obviously means you´re not GREAT at Science, meaning your practical work will be bad.

Jealous? No, not jealous. I don´t want to deal with lazy people in my workplace when I get a job one day. And no, the A* is not easy, but it not as heard as people claim it to. At least not in IGCSE. In "A" level, getting the A* is a challenge.

Which brings me to another point. Since the A* in IGCSE is not as hard as the one in "A" level, people will have a much harder time in "A" level, ultimately screwing them up.

And finally, letters are meaningless. An A* simply means you were above a certain boundary. Technically it is possible for one to achieve an A* with 50% because the examiner board decides it, but that doesn´t mean you yourself are A* material does it? It goes to show how it´s difficult to distinguish quality from a sea of people.
If it makes you feel better I agree
The A* has become preposterously low, and even then if you go to CIE website the sheer lack of people scoring A* in subjects like maths is astounding...
My brother got 6 A*, and he was woefully under-prepared when university came along (though thankfully he adapted quickly and is fine). IGCSE is just a name. It's easy and does not give you the required knowledge.
In the end this education directly effects the rest of your lives for most people. They could easily make the IG's harder, and then the SERIOUS students would actually shine.
I don't mind though. The only reason A* is low is because there are thousands of people who score terribly, so that just makes it easier for me.

P.S. They plot all the grades on a curve after marking, and then use that curve to decide which percentage is A* (if you take Maths you should've learnt about cumulative frequency)

Actually I think it's more to do with the fact that IGCSE is used more often in countries such as Saudi Arabia, India etc. America has their SAT system and most of UK uses the GCSEs.
I mean I havn't gone around but I highly doubt you'll have as much people saying religious things in SAT forums.
That's just my guess.

Well
IGCSE's aren't actually very hard
I personally put a stop to my gaming. And watching films. And..etc. etc.
I'm not too worried but it's only a month and a half of life which I'll be losing. I'd prefer to focus now and get the grades I need than have to waste a year later redoing it.
