Hi everyone. I'll be doing my IGCSEs this May/June and the subjects I'll be taking are as follows: English, Engilsh Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science, Global Perspectives, Economics and Malay (I previously dropped Accounting).
For my a-levels, I'm planning to do food technology, textiles, english and one other subject i'm still not sure of. My parents are urging me not to take food tech because I'm not taking any pure sciences for my IGCSE. I'm aware of that but I've done my research and I found that I don't necessarily need a pure science background to do food tech. Besides, I spoke to the headmistress of my sixth form school and she said that my a-level subject choices are based solely on my interests.
My parents don't seem to understand that I would pick culinary over textiles any day and they're making me forget about considering food tech as a subject just because I'm not taking the right subjects for my IGCSEs! After this I wouldn't mind listening to their advice on what subjects to take, but I don't want them to make decisions for me. I want to make my own decisions because I know what I'm interested in and I know that if I put my mind to something, I can have some degree of success. It's not going to be easy especially because I don't have a scientific background, but nothing's ever easy. I already have my heart set on food tech and my career in mind and this is what i want to do regardless of anything. There's no point in me taking a subject i would prefer not to do and never looking forward to lessons because I know i'm being cheated of some better sixth form experience and then the aftermath will be that I won't be able to cope with my subjects and then feel stressed and upset in the long term.
So yeah that's my problem. It would be greatly appreciated if I could get advice on this :/ thank you!
