Someone please explain to me the absorption line spectra and emission line spectra. Please
Okay so firstly emission light spectrum is in case of hot gases whereas the absorption line spectrum is in case of cool gases.
Emission line spectrum:
In hot gases, the electrons have already gained the energy gap difference between successive levels and thus gradually are losing that energy when the electrons come back to the ground state. Thus we get certain wavelengths of light emitted depending on the energy gap. Thus, analyzing these spctrum can give us an idea about the electron levels of the element that is emitting.
For absorption line spectrum:
In cool gases, when white light is passed, the screen will have a few dark fringes as some wavelength of light is absorbed by the cool gas. The gas then uses this to excite its electron to a higher energy level.
