Q.7) you solve it like a normal trigonometry question
the range is 0 (less then or equal to) x (less then or equal to 180)
so the range of 3x will be 0 (less than or equal to) 3x (less than or equal to) 540

now you solve the equation: sec^(2) 3x= 1
cos^(2) 3x=1
cos3x= +/- 1
3x= 0, 180, 360, 540
x= 0, 60, 120, 180
hence n(C)= 4

Q-11) ii) and iii) I am so sorry but i cant explain it over here :( :( however check the mark scheme, its really helpful http://www.xtremepapers.me/CIE/Cambridg ... _qp_12.pdf
I know i wasn't of much help so sorry once again :(

@adnanj

a) total books = 9
conrad = 3
if these books are next to each other thn= 3!
and remaining books are 6 but we have to consider conrad as one group so we'll get it as 1 and that makes total books = 7
so, 3! x 7! = 30240

b) if books of dickens are together thn do the same what we did in part a)
we would consider 2 as one group and total number would be 8 now

2! x 8! = 80640

but we want to get that if they are seperated so,
total arrangements - if they are together
9! - 80640 = 282240

c) do the same

if they are together thn = 30240

separated = total - together
= 9! = 30240
= 332640

Answer of part C doesn't match with the book's answer :(

no when you subtracted it frm the total arrangements it also included the arrangement in which 2bks r together and 1 is seperated.
