@scouserlfc: There's no denying that oxygen is a neutral gas but the point you're missing is that the REMOVAL of CO2 during PHOTOSYNTHESIS results in an ALKALINE solution!

see but water or the thing the plant is being kept in a neutral solution because in the begining it is orange coloured so if u remove acid it doesnt mean that it will become alkaline think

see if u dont understand read the Question again and try to understand.

before the experiment starts the colour is orange indicating that PH = 7 when nothing happens so

when the experiment starts.

in test tube one .
as there is a cover out side the plant gets the feeling that it is night and therefore respires.

while in test tube 2 the plant gets light and starts taking Co2 for photosynthesis and gives out oxygen see taking in Co2 brings the PH to 7 and not higher because no alkaline substance is there,

Then one of the mark schemes is wrong? I'm talking about the one Nibz posted. And Nibz, you insulted my eye sight for nothing! How DARE you do that?
@scoulserfc: thank you! Yes of course I will. The topic is obviously plant nutrition.

Look, there is another possibility! Not all the CO2 is used up! It's only its concentrations which has decreased after 3 hours! Innit?
