so good... i still cannot fully memorise those freaky name and process.... i remembered those name but some times confused then put in wrong place or spell wrong...Blood clotting is also called coagulation. It usually happens when the skin breaks and blood is released i.e a cut. The damaged tissues and blood platelets release an enzyme known as thrombokinase.
Thrombokinase converts the inactive prothrombin in the blood to the active thrombin.
Thrombin in turn converts the soluble fibrinogen present in the blood to insoluble fibrin strands. These strands entangle the RBCs to form a clot. The clot prevents further germs to enter the body. The germs that have already entered are first agglutanized by antibodies, then are ingested by white blood cells via phagocytosis.
Usually blood doesnt clot due to the presence of an anti-clotting agent present in blood called heparin, but an additional effect of thrombokinase is to to neutralize the effect of heparin so that clotting can take place.
Clotting requires calcium ions and Vitamin K to occur.
Got my O lvl bio exam tomorrow, so im full of answers today . Hope i helped!
