I'm going to give English Literature next year and I need some help/guidance.
Which sections did you pick? How many books/texts did you buy and study?

I need to buy the texts this week or on the weekend so please do help me out

+ Which sections seemed easier to you when you began studying the course?

English Literature is very simple. You can easily get your A*.
But you need to have a critical thinking, this is the key of success.
I studied 3 books:
-Death of a Salesman (Arthur Miller)
-The Great Gatsby (F.Scott Fitzgerald)
-Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte)

I advise you to study these, as they are easier to analyse and easier to break down.

Buy the books but don't read them in one go.
Read the background of the book first.
Go on Google Search, look for summaries of your book.
Read them all.
Then start your reading.
You will have a better understanding of the book.

After the summary and the background, read the themes than your book contains.
It will help you when writing essays.

Read only one book at a time.

Buy your books as fast a possible and also buy York Notes for A level.
Each Literature book has its own York Notes, I advise the A level as it is more powerful and the O level is not adapted.

So, it can be possible.
You should be really hard-working.
And you know if you want some samples of "How to make an essay for literature?", ask me!
You should know your books by heart. Not every word on every page but you should know the basics of what is happening.
If you really want an A*, your essays should be unique and beautifully written.
>Powerful Introduction
>3 or more main Core paragraphs
>Powerful Conclusion
Your essays should be out of the lot.

Ok, answers mean essays.
Each answer is valued at 25 marks.
For 25 marks, approximately 1000 words is needed. ( Don't be overpowered, when you get the writing skills you will find it easy to write much.)

You will need to answer 4 questions.
Each essay should have a unique theme and 3 sub-themes which will go in the 3 paragraphs in the middle.
The 3 sub-themes should refer to the main theme which should refer to the question itself.
Everything should be linked.

At first it is difficult to manage this much. I started by writing small paragraphs. It brings me only 17 marks.
To be over 20 marks, you should make an essay.
>1 introduction
>3-4 paragraphs
>1 conclusion

For the moment, i advise you to read the books and the notes(summaries). Don't get involve now in the essays.

I would like you to study:
-Death of a Salesman (Arthur Miller)
-The Great Gatsby (F.Scott Fitzgerald)
-Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte)
These are the easiest of the lot. (I think)
You should work on the Themes on each book.

I gather up my notes from it.

There is not a real syllabus. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEVELOP AND SHOW A CRITICAL THINKING!!!! And that's all.

However, while I was searching for the past papers, I found that there were two kinds of paper 1. (paper 11 and paper 12)

Hey Atish I need your help again . .
Firstly, and sadly, even though i tried to analyze the paper format by looking at syllabus code and past papers, i couldn't get it (embarassing),
I'll appreciate if you can give me a clearer picture of the paper format and the syllabus. for e.g which essays are likely to come ? Like the one you've already mentioned are the main focus or are there more such essays or prose (whatever) that may have a high probability of being asked in the examinations.
Secondly, these York Notes you've mentioned, I wanted to ask you are they available easily ? (I live in Pakistan)
I know most of my questions you've answered before sir, but my entries for O levels are about to be sent and once I've given them I cannot stand back, so I'm just trying to realize where I will be headed before actually taking the subject.
I would be really thankful to you if you could help me here. !!
