CAN U TELL THE SUBSTANCE FOR U WANT BUT SINCE U WANNA KNOW ILL TEACH U DO NOT WORRY,

CONSIDER THIS EQUATION.
Mg + CuSO4 > MgSO4 + Cu

SO NOW U SEE THAT SO4 IS CONSTANT ITS CHARGE DOES NOT CHANGE ANY TIME SO U CANCEL IT OUT AND IT IS KNOWN AS SPECTATOR ION.

A spectator ion is an ion that exists as a reactant and a product in a chemical equation

NOW U R LEFT WITH THIS.
Mg^0+ Cu^+2 > Mg^+2 + Cu^0
NOTE ^ DONATES THE CHARGE OR VALENCY OF THE ION NOW U WRITE HALF IONIC EQUATIONS.
THE MAIN AIM HERE IF U KNOW IS TO TELL HOW FOR MG IT WENT TO +2
SO, Mg^0 = Mg^+2 + 2e^- THE e SHOWS ELECTRONS MG GIVES ELECTRONS AND BECOMES +2

WHILE FOR COPPER,
Cu^2+ + 2e^- > Cu^0

so u see the charge one is half ionic while the ones above this are normal ionic equations with no spectator ions.

another different eg. of the above one is this.

CuCl2 + 2NaNO3 = 2NaCl + Cu(NO3)2

now some one asks u to write ionic equation for NaCl formation u go as follows.
1.first u find spectator ions and eleminate them from the equation
2.then write the equation without them and ull surely have an ionic equation.

Cu and NO3 are both spectators remove them and write charges of each substance,
2Cl^-1 + 2Na^+1 = 2NaCl

sure this helps please and tell me if u find difficult anything,

and one more thing chem does not suck ;)
