hydrogen bonding?
A Methane, CH4
B Methanol, CH3OH
C Ammonia, NH3
D Hydrogen iodide, HI
the answer is D

how can it be D? I know the 2 have permanent dipoles and form Hydrogen bonds . A has no dipole. but how is it D?

Although one might expect hydrogen bonding to occur between Hl molecules. However, Iodine is too large, and thus the lone pairs are too diffuse ie. not concentrated enough, and hence hydrogen bond attractions between l's lone pairs and hydrogen atoms can not form.

Iodine molecule is not very electronegative,
Just remember that h.b takes place with NOF only
N = nitrogen
O = oxygen
F = flourine
Hope that will help
