When a question like this comes I get confused:-
No one knows where iron was first isolated. It appeared in China, the Middle
East and in Africa. It was obtained by reducing iron ore with charcoal.
(a) Complete the following equation.
Fe2O3 + C → ................... + ........................
This word
what does this mean i know what is reduction it means gain but how to apply this in a reaction.

Here reducing means loss of oxygen...the equation will be as follows: 2 Fe2O3 + 2C --> 4 Fe + 3 CO2
I guess i am right...i know this is a patpaper question so u check it using the mark scheme if its wrong let meknow i will check my mistake!!

Points to remember:
Reduction is:
*the gain of electons
*loss of oxygen
*gain of hydrogen
