for that you should first know are the electrodes inert or reactive and you have to learn reactivity series too

I only know the reactivity series
ok good so in a solution there are always 4 ions 2 of which solution u re using and 2 of water H and OH and if you know the reactivity series and always the more reactive takes the part at anod and cathode understood ? and if the electrodes are reactive they will also take part... AT CATHODE the positive ions get discharged as an atom and at Anode negative ion get discharged

so always at cathode u gotta write like this only because they gain electrons whether its hydrogen or cu u always have to write in form of e.g" cu2plus+2emines---->cu

anode is just the opposite of cathode equation and yeah for anode also remember the reactivity of negative so4-,no3-,(co3)2-,OH- and with that Cl-,Br-,I- ok
so if there is OH- and cl- the cl- will go to the anode not oh- remember ok so remember at anode the equation will always in the form of this
for e.g:
4OH------>2H20 + O2 + 4e-
or
2cl- ---->cl2+2e-

Inert electrodes like graphite/platinum
if you are having active electrode like copper electrodes
thn in a solution of
cu2+ So4-
H+ OH-
this at anode cu will discharged not OH bcz cu is reactive electrode

At cathode
cu2+ +2e- ---->Cu
At Anode
cu------> cu2+ + 2e-

and yes also remember that when u re using two ions at electrode and other 2 ions are left behind in solution so according to that the solution become acidic or akaline bcz concentration of reacting ions get decreased and concentration of left behind ions increases
