I've recently quit my learning center as it's pretty shit. I'm supposed to take my Cambridge IGCSEs next year during June. I've basically covered half of my Science Stream syllabus already. So basically, from today until June 2013, I will have to study on my own.. Has anyone done this and sat for their test? If anyone has successfully studied on their own and taken their test, can you please give me some tips/pointers on how to do it?

The subjects i'm taking:-
Biology (0610)
Chemistry (0620)
English - First Language (0500)
Malay - Foreign Language (0546)
Mathematics (0580)
Mathematics - Additional (0606)
Physics (0625)

I did most of my subjects alone because we didn't learn a lot at school due to behavioural problems in most classes. I pretty much covered the entired syllabus for Co-ordinated science by myself without any help from teachers and did fine on practice papers at home because we had bad science teachers, so science is pretty easy to study independently. For English, I suggest you get a good text book since you're doing first language because you need to be familiar with the format of writing they might ask for in both papers (I recommend the textbook made and endorsed by Cambridge press). As for math, it depends on your proficiency in it. If you're pretty good at it then you could easily cover it by yourself. But if you're not (like me), you could just do everything you can at home and then ask someone for help (I went in to another class's teacher at school because he was better than my teacher and he helped me earn my A*). For math you really need to pound away on past papers every time you think you've covered the syllabus and see where you went wrong, then research online that particular topic(s). If you don't have anyone to reach out to for math try asking on answers.yahoo.com, you get several answers within minutes from other people if you explain your question clearly for them. I don't know about Malay though, sorry (I only did English 1st+2nd language, English literature and Arabic for my language subjects). Hope any of that is of use to you :)

I studied Islamyat, Economics, Business Studies and Urdu in O level on my own. Got an a* in isl, bs and eco and an a in urdu. Further studied economics on my own in AS and got an a. Now doing a2 economics on my own.

Studying on your own really requires a lot of hardwork because you have to do all that the teacher does for you, such as browsing for notes, checking your own answers, giving yourself work etc. It requires studying from more than one source. I studied economics in AS from about 6 sources. You also have to be very responsible and determined. Give it a go. Try doing a chapter or two on your own in a given period of time. Make sure if you study on your own, that you make a strict timeline to when you complete you syllabus
