i neeed help in acid and bases chapter please any1 help.
thnx
Acids are proton doners ( give out H+ ions) and bases accept them (proton acceptors) . Strong acids and bases undergo complete ionisation e.g. When NaOH or HCL react all their particles will be turned into ions.
ACIDS:
-turn the colour of litmus paper red
-react with metals to produce a salt + hydrogen
- react with bases (neutrailisation reaction) to produce a salt + water
-react with carbonates to produce a salt + carbon dioxide + water

BASES:
-All metal hydroxides and oxides are bases (group 1 and the lower part of group 2 metal hydroxides are called alkalis- they are water soluble)
-They turn litmus paper blue
-They react with acids to produce a salt + water
-They can displace ammonia from it's compouds, producing a salt + ammonia + water

Note: Amphoteric substances act as bases when they react with acids and as acids when they react with bases (e.g. Aluminium oxide)

Hope that helped!
