Ofcourse you can prepare !! read as many novels and Newspapers as you can find and also solve some past papers though the pattern has changed but you can pick up a topic from past paper and solve it !! also try to surf dictionary !!! this will improve your vocabulary and make a list of words along with their meanings and at the end of the week take the test from yourself that whether you remember those or not ? and if you are willing to give extra subject then go for Commerce 7100, Sociology, Environmental management or maybe Accounts (if you are interested in Commerce)
and btw
-----TOPIC MOVED------- :D

dude i think u are really interested in improving your english so i would recommend you take a look at this site: http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdocumen ... _draft.pdf

.........in this you should mostly consider the writing or english of the A* candidate.................after reading question number seven of this student i really got motivated from his or her english....................its too interesting and heart touchingg and i belive that this would also help you to realize what usually the examiners check in the english paper :)

So good luck pal :)

If you're planning to take the English Language exam in the November 2011 session, you really need to improve your English. By the way always keep in mind that you never GIVE your exams, you always TAKE them.
In Paper 1, you should always play your strengths. In section one, go for the story one (topic). It's easier and quicker to make up a good story than to collect arguments for and against a Topic or writing a description (Given that you have practiced past papers.) Solve past papers and have them checked by a good teacher. In section two, you already have been given the points that you have to include in your report/letter, no matter what. If you miss out any point, you'll lose a mark. What Salman said was right. Read as many novels as you can, but don't let them go to your head. While writing a composition, use your own material and make up your own story. Don't copy it from anywhere else.

In Paper 2, you can only hope for the best and practice past papers. You'll need to keep in mind the IM (Implicit meaning) and the EM (Explicit meaning).

For an extra subject, you can go for the subjects that Salman recomended and for Statistics. Statistics has a short syllabus and much of it is already covered in the Mathematics Syllabus D.

Hope you find this helpful.........

Hey you could start by keeping a diary in English.
Try to jot down what all you've been up to in one day, including your moments of happiness and disappointment. This way, you'll be writing with feelings and will be practising how to express your ideas clearly through writing. You may soon realise that you are in short of adequate vocabulary and technical words but don't be disheartened, it will only benefit you in the long run.
Since it's your own life you'll be keeping track of, you'll feel extremely satisfied when you read back one day and assess your progress. Moreover, that will be some good piece of original writing!
To be creative, I pen down my dreams also. I make up a story to make up for the parts I forget when I wake up lol. That's my own experience of how I managed to get a distinction in both oral and written english(I agree, it differs from what teachers tell us at school!) Hope it helps!
