Can anyone please provide me some guidance as to how one can buy a .com domain name. The domain name I want is available, I've checked, but I don't know how to and from where to buy it. Thank you.

You can't 'buy' domain names. It doesn't work that way. You have to rent domain names and there are multiple sources from which you can 'rent' them.
You see, what happens is that you pick out an appropriate domain name and a suitable domain extension, then you have to register that domain and make payments (online mostly). After that, you rent web hosting services which allow you to present your website on the internet (or publish your website). Web hosting services, like domain names, are provided by various sources. Mostly, you rent a domain name for 1 year and then you renew it each year, depending on your earnings and/or savings. Web hosting services offer yearly packages or rent per month routine.

I'll give you a few links to popular web hosting and domain name providing websites:
http://www.godaddy.com/domains/search.aspx?ci=78118 (Most popular as far as I know).
https://www.domainname.com/domainchecker.php
http://www.hostndomain.com/domain.asp
And if you want a .pk domain extension then:
http://www.domainname.pk/

Some web hosting services are cheap, some are expensive, this is because the quality and running of the website depends on the web host; so choose wisely!
Hope this helps. If you have any further queries then you can ask usama321, CaptainDanger, badrobot14 or thementor.

You can get domain for as less as 10 bucks per year but you will probably need hosting which will be around 4 bucks a month if you go really cheap.
