Cardboard is primarily made from wood pulp, which comes from trees such as pine, spruce, and birch. The process begins by breaking down wood into fibers through mechanical or chemical methods. These fibers are then cleaned, refined, and mixed with water to form a pulp. This pulp is spread into layers, pressed, and dried to create thick, durable sheets.

There are two main types of cardboard: paperboard and corrugated cardboard. Corrugated cardboard consists of three layers—an inner fluted layer sandwiched between two flat linerboards which adds strength and cushioning. Many cardboard products also include recycled paper materials, making them environmentally friendly.
