Answer

1,4,9,16……….x

x = n^2

4,9,16,p……….y [p = 25]

y = (n + 1)^2

4,12,24,q……..z [q = 40]

Look at the first term of the sequence, ‘4’ and try to relate it two the first two sequences.

The first term of the very first sequence is ‘1’ and in the next is ‘4’.

If you add 1 and 4 and subtract 1 from the result you get 4 !!!

(1+4)-1 = 4

Apply this to the first two nth terms.

nth term of first sequence: n^2
nth term of second sequence: (n + 1)^2

So,
(n^2 + (n + 1)^2) – 1 should give the nth term of the third sequence.

= n^2 + n^2 + 2n +1 – 1
= 2n^2 + 2n
= 2n (n + 1) ---------------------------------> This is the aswer !!!
