The Questions asks "State One use for this simple moisture detector?"

The Marking scheme states like this

(b) any sensible suggestion, e.g., warning of rain (not water level for the blind,
not automatic pump/windscreen wipers etc.)

I personally think that humidity should score the mark. because it same as saying "warning of rain". Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air , so when humidity increase, the circuit gets completed, the transistors start working, the bulb lights up.

I thought the same but the e.r. states " Very few candidates suggested a suitable use for the moisture detector; several candidates stated that it could be used to switch on a pump or it could measure moisture levels. The device referred to in the question could do neither of these."
Now this clearly says that it cannot measure moisture levels or the humidity of the air! :( :S
So I think the best answer would be "to detect rainfall" as Nibz said.
