Real Madrid took on FC Barcelona in the first elclassico of the season and it was the home side at Santiago Bernabue who turn out to be winners and reduced the points gap at the top of the table to just 1 point.
Barcelona started with Neymar, Messi and Suarez upfront and this was the competitive debut of Suarez who started at the right side of three man attack while Neymar played from the left and Messi floated in false 9 role. Barcelona scored the opening goal with virtually their very first attack in 4th minute as Neymar cut inside from the left side on the edge of the box and drove home a powerful low shot to make it 1-0 for the away side.
After Barcelona took the lead, Real Madrid attack from all ends and kept Barcelona out of shape and created couple of great chances when Benzema first hit the cross bar with a glancing header and on the rebouce a powerful pile driver was cannon off the bar. Just when you thought Barcelona are coming into their own with slow passing build ups, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty which was converted by Ronaldo in 35th minute.
The game was 1-1 at the break and both teams had their fair share of chances, with Messi missed a glittering opportunity to increase Barcelona’s lead before Ronaldo’s penalty. After the break Real madrid took the lead through Pepe within minutes of restart after the break.
Karim Benzema kept his incredible run of scoring in Classico games going with a good goal which was the result of hard work shown by Isco on the left side when a poorly taken corner kick by Ivan Rakitic resulted in a swift counter attack and good inter-changing passes between Ronaldo, J.Rodriguez released Benzema who slotted home to make it 3-1.
